Adventures of a Semi-Employed Career Transitioner: a Fresh Start

Started with my thick and heavy long hair to the shortest haircut I’ve had.

I wasn’t my best self last month. After riding the high of getting so many interviews, I got rejected for most of them and fell into despair. I lost the bandwidth to apply for jobs or write about my experience. I was paralyzed with fear of getting rejected again. I felt hopeless, lost, and constantly stressed as I was trying to survive each week. But I’m happy to say this week is different.

I started a new part-time marketing job, and I got a haircut! As I’ve gotten older, I’ve realized how empowering a haircut can be, and after what I experienced last year, this is what I needed. I’m cutting out:

  • All the anxiety
  • All the despair
  • All the career trauma
  • All the negative emotions
  • All the worry
  • All the fear
  • All the doubt

Everything from last year and the first two months of 2022-all gone! What I’m looking forward to the most now is:

  • Getting more experience with this new job.
  • Feeling more confident about myself.
  • Building my resiliency through my mindfulness training program.
  • Reading books that I’m excited about.
  • Visiting LA to check out an exhibit on my favorite movie director.

I’m excited about this fresh start and getting rid of the literal and metaphorical weight off my shoulders—cheers to this new beginning.
